The Indian Numismatic, Historical and Cultural Research Foundation (INHCRF), a Maheshwari
foundation, was established in 1980 with the principal objective of promoting studies
and research in Indian numismatics, archaeology, history and culture.
|
The Foundation is registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 [Registration number: E7652 (Bom)]; Income Tax Act, 1961 [donations to the Foundation are exempt under Section 80G]; and Foreign Contribution Regulation Act [Registration number: 083780444] enabling the Foundation to receive foreign contributions. |
About INHCRF |
The core activities of INHCRF are two-fold. The first is to promote
and facilitate research. This it does by making available to the researchers the
coin resources through documented database, a comprehensive library, and also through
assistance to other institutions in documentation and cataloguing, etc. The second
relates to education. It seeks to impart practical training to the students through
short-term courses, usually not available in the university curricula. It
also strives to create awareness among students and the general public about the
fundamental value of studying and preserving India’s vast and varied historical
and cultural heritage through exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and other relevant
media.
|
INHCRF carries out these activities through its two divisions,
Indian Institute of Research in Numismatic Studies (IIRNS), founded in 1984, and
the Indian Rock Art Research Centre (IRARC), established in 2005. Both these divisions
function from a picturesque six-acre campus ringed by Sahyadri hills, located at
Anjaneri, on the Nasik-Tryambakeshwar road about 20 km from Nasik (Maharashtra).
To promote its archaeological activities, the Foundation partners with the Society
for South Asian Studies, UK. It also undertakes collaborative projects with other
institutions.
|
Management
policies are spelt by a Board of Trustees which is
guided by a Governing Council
comprising eminent numismatists, archaeologists, historians
and other top professionals.
There is an Investment Committee which lays the guidelines
for the financial investments.
